For The Sake of the CDSteve Earle is certainly entitled to his opinion, but comparing Bob Dylan to anyone seems kind of foolish. However, just the fact that many, myself included, consider Townes Van Zandt to be in the same league as Dylan as a songwriter speaks volumes about the late Texan's considerable talents. This is a nice pairing of two of his best albums. It's always cool to get two albums for the price of one. A great introduction to a cult hero who deserves wider recognition. Wrong track listHigh Low and in Between is a great album. But this page has the wrong tracks listed...Don't compare him to DylanUnlike Steve Earle, I would not want to stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and tell him that Townes van Zandt is the best songwriter who ever lived. This is most definitely a Texas size exaggeration. However, I would agree that TVZ has written some good tunes. "Poncho and Lefty" is as poignant and well-crafted as Dylan's best ballads. Most of the songs in this collection are good to okay, but not great. The non-commercial presentation of the composer singing his songs is well done and easy to listen to. For those who are not TVZ worshippers but like alternative country music, this is not a bad choice. |
