A Great start for MxPx

Firt of all, this is a really good cd considering that they are still in high school. The lyrics are amazingly mature, but your parents won't belive it because of how it sounds. Half the cd has good catchy songs, while the other half is just pure punk. This is one of those cd's that you will love it and your parents will hate it. The cd starts out with 2 straight up punks songs, then the 3rd song called "want ad" is very catchy and memerable. From there on every song is pure punk or catchy{pop}punk. If you want to get into MxPx(Magnified Plaid} and if you are a teenager, I high recommend this cd. If you are in your 20's or higher I recommend slowly going the way of the buffalo. If you don't like the punk sound of MxPx I recommend The Ever Passing Moment or Before Everything and After. If you just want a taste of what MxPx sounds like get 10 years and running. Regardless what your taste in music is, MxPx is for everyone. Good catchy songs with good clean lyrics that alot of people can relate to. The bottom line is if you like punk music like 7 seconds, get it. If you like music more like Green Day, skip it.

The first, the fastest, and the rawest!

I bought this CD on Dec. 7th, 1994 only a week or two after it was released. There was not a Christian band yet that sounded like true punk rock to me. The Crucified has gone trash metal and Crashdog was like an updated version of the Sex Pistols..but not as good really. Green Day and the Offspring were all the rage when this came out but nothing had the right combination of pop melody and pure adrenaline to me. MXPX was known by their REAL name at this time...Magnified Plaid (the X's were meant as symbols of Magnification not as actual letters in the groups name...duh) and my head was almost completely blown off when I put that CD in for the first time in the Lighthouse Christian bookstore. The opening blast of "Anywhere But Here" confirmed that MXPX was the real deal and I snached up the CD immediately.

"Pokinatcha" always has kind of reminded me of the first Ramones album...hits you on the head with the first track and then drags you by the throat thru the entire album without letting you get a breath once. With the Ramones first album it was only 14 tracks...with "Pokinatcha" it was the staggering amount of 21 tracks! This was constantly on my CD player throughout the rest of 1994 and all of 1995. It was a great way to give yourself a blast of energy first thing in the morning. I was 18 when I bought it and I just turned 28...it's this albums 10 year anniversary with me..WoW! I saw MXPX for the first time in concert May 1995 at Knotts Berry Farms "Spring Jubilation" shindig. It was the best show they probally ever did! Unfortunately it was pretty downhill from there..."Teenage Politics" didn't measure up to the first album..even though I've got memories of that album as well on into 1996. The "On The Cover" E.P. was pretty good and I have to say that "Life In General" was the closest they ever came to the first album again but nothing hit me like "Pokinatcha" did. After 1998 I was pretty much through with the band and the whole pop-punk thing in general. Too repetitious and the whiny "I sing like I'm 12 years old" vocals were now nerve gratting. However "Pokinatcha" is one of the greatest Christian punk rock albums of all time! Get it and let it run over you like a steamroller!

the sequels always suck

yep..but this isn't a sequel so it dosent suck! anyway, it's an awesome cd. very punk rock. not poserish pop punk rock. i do like their newest too...reminds me of blink. but this is so raw and awesome and origional. this is the cd that stared it all...and it definetly kicks ass!
