Great compilation, but...First of all, the music is superb (if you like old Christian music). Second of all, the sound quality is as good as it gets for this type of music (1920-era 78s mastered to CD) (Yazoo does a great job as always removing most unwanted noise) My only complaint is the packaging: while I appreciate the quotations from some of the songs, I was hoping for more information about the date of the recordings. Lets face it, one thing we're paying for in a recording like this is the rarity of the music - and it would be nice to know some more about the artists. I give the music and recording five stars but the packaging three stars.Which half are we referring to?I just can't get my mind around it. Which half? This CD is two discs (available seperately). Is one of them the half that's never been told? Has the other half been told. I just started college, majoring in philosophy at the Univeristy of Brainard. These are the kinds of questions I am forced to ponder. Just another great collection from YazooYazoo just keeps finding great stuff and this may be one of their finest collections yet. Terrific variety and sound quality. There are superb performances on both discs in the series but the two songs by Washington Philips are stunning. Even long time roots music fans will find something new and worthwhile on this outstanding set. Just another day at the office for Yazoo. Thanks folks. |
