Talent galore, needs song writer.I'm a fan, but not enough so that I could recommend this CD. It seems that with every passing effort, Bramhall gets a little worse. He's got a great voice, he plays a great guitar,....but the songs are just out and out mediocre. If you don't own anything by Bramhall, get the Arc Angels first, his debut solo second, then flip a coin over the two most recent. I'll continue to hope that he fulfills his potential with the next release.Bramhall's guitar playing ranks with the bestDoyle Bramhall has made taken up where Cream, Stevie Ray and Buddy Guy left off. While certainly playing his own style, there are elements of all the greats present in this presentation. "Blues that isn't afraid to rock" is how I would label this album. Andrew Mueller's review for Amazon (above) mentions interminable guitar solos. The guy just doesn't get it. The guitar solos are magic. No, they won't fit into neat little 3 minute packages for radio play. This isn't mindless commercial music, it's artistry. If you love good guitar playing, you'll love this album.Excellant album for blues/rock or classic rock fans Welcome is exactly that a very welcome addition to my CD collection. Track one Green Light Girl is a future rock classic. Smokestack and Thin Dream or other excellant cuts. The entire album is high quality. Doyle's vocals and songwriting are well done. His guitar playing is tasteful and passionate. One of the best releases in the last several years. Doyle Bramhill II is not breaking any new ground here, but perfectly diving into an old one. Doyle is breathing new life into guitar driven blues/rock and with Welcome he has cemented himself as a legend in waiting. Want more like this check out Arc Angels/Arc Angels. |
