Not as bad as many would have you believe

This is Fear Factory's worst album. However, it's not without merit. Call it Nu-metal all you want but What Will become, Invisible Wounds, and especially Linchpin are great tracks. I may have been willing to give this more stars if it weren't for that god awful rap song with Cypress Hill!!! What is up with that!? Hearing Burton C. Bell rap makes my skin crawl! Rap has no place in Metal, and this proves it! It definately can't measure up to Demanufacture or Obsolete, but aside from the horrific rap song it's bout on par with their lates album (Archetype) in my opinion.

Essence of Fear

This release by Fear Factory comes out with 4 bonus tracks. Digimortal is one hell of a album. Yes, it does include tracks from the band's earlier albums but it is done in such a way that it doesn't detract from the core sound and message that Fear Factory sets out to provide. And yes, to those who say Fear Factory is just a crasse brutal metal sounding band, I say you are wrong.

Fear Factory since its first release has set out to send out a message - in a story format. It's a story based on humanity's future when our own creations machines have taken over every facet of our lives and start to take over control. It's a story of humanity's questioning of one's religion, views and opinions in a ever changing world.

As a fan of Fear Factory I can relate to many of the songs lyrics, they are borne of a essence of a group of people's questioning of the status quo. I think and truly believe that Fear Factory is a band that instills questioning in each of us who listen.

What Will Become - a strong track that ask's the question of what will become of humanity's future.

Linchpin - track 05, is a melodic if sometimes harsh sounding track with great lyrics.

Back The F*** Up - my favourite track. A FF oldie.

Byte Block and Hurt Conveyor - beautiful sounding tracks.

Digimortal is a album for any Fear Factory fan.

The ugly duckling in FF's career

I trashed this CD when I first heard it, as it was very disappointing after Demanufacture and Obsolete. FF should of been more careful withn the track selection But these songs really stick out:

Acres of Skin - Won't grab you on the spot, but when it clicks, it CLICKS.

Invisible Wounds - The worst of 3 different versions. Too bad they couldn't get the Hatefiles or Resident Evil incarnation on time for the release of this CD. Those 2 are very good songs and makes you think what would of happened if each song had that much time devoted to it.

Memory Imprints - Phenomenal...nothing else to say

Linchpin - Love the song and lyrics.

Byte Block - Very well done, but Christain's bass work on that bridge is something that would not come from Fear Factroy and made me cringe when I first heard it.

What Will Become - Doesn't hook you at first, then bam it's impossible to turn off.

Frequency - Not on the CD but obviously recorded in the same era(get the game if possible).

Strain vs Resistance - Not that great, but still a nice listen.

The other good but not great songs include damaged and no one. Average include BTFU and digimortal Hurt Conveyer is lame.

So you got 9 solid songs. The band has stated recording this was hell, and you can kind of tell as some songs seems to take shortcuts. With the stupid pop-metal era a cd like this was inevitable, but at the same unthinkable to fans which is why bands like LB are hated by people who have never heard them. Yes it's the worst FF cd by far, but may be considered great for a newerband. Fans should have it, but first-timers should go with Demanufacture.
