Of a different forceIMHO, this album's music & chorus is stronger than the vocals. The soaring, angry, fantastic feel of songs such as "the Promise" and "Mother Earth" are absent here. Sharon den Adel seems to sing much tamer, what many fans have criticised as being a "Sell-out" indicator. I don't agree that Within Temptation is sounding more like Evanesence (for one, den Adel sings better!). Instead we have fantasy mixed with consistently "standard" sounding rock vocals, and Pat Benatar (not that that's necessarily a bad thing) came forth to mind upon hearing many of the songs on this disc. The downer is that here Sharon den Adel is sounding much too American. Having liked their previous albums, I was left wanting for a cutting loose of wild, emotional vocals, but to no satisfaction. There is less Goth in the voice of this Silent Force and that's a pity. We come close in "Jillian (I'd Give my Heart)" but it's not enough for this fan. Still this is definitely worth a buy. The chorus creates a wonderful atmosphere that this fantasy lover revels in.The Swan Song? I Surely Hope Not!After months of dissapointment in new albums, finally, Silent Force! Within Temptation have been riding the line between metal and opera for years and they have perfected their sound in Silent Force. But don't let the name fool you. There's nothing Silent About it. There is the perfect blend of metal noise and operatic bliss on this album. Some songs are definately more metal than others, while other songs are more opera in tone, the rest are a perfect balance. The songs on the album are laid out perfectly to give the listener a whole experience from start to finish. There wasn't a dull moment. This is easily some of Within Temptation's best work. The songs See Who I am, Jillian (I'd Give My Hear), Forsaken, and The Swan Song are among the best they've ever written. Silent Force has even made a listener of many people I know who'd never bothered with Within Temptation before. And that is what makes a new album great. When you can please the fans of old and attract new fans with the same sound, is there anything more you can want? I only hope that Silent Force is the jump off point for the next album, and that Within Temptation continues to evolve their sound beyond this point. Though I can't imagine an album better than this. This is the album of their carreer. It leaves me wanting more while completely satisfying my musical needs. I recommend this album to everyone. Get it. Let the Silent Force consume you.Elegant, Overwhelmingly Bbeautiful and Inspirational. Do not let this sweeping emotional journey fool you into thinking that Within Temptation is a boring salad eating band. These metal rockers not only put Evanescence to shame but the level of production and musicianship is astounding with all the glorious choral accents and beautifully orchestrated metal manna to fill up all lovers of rock and classical music in one tasty meal. So accessible are they that I'm stunned they are not feeding the America's. This band with the right exposure would top all the charts and gives a whole lot of everything anybody searching for fresh food to feed their musical needs could want. To those who say that this is a sell out? THANK YOU WITHIN TEMPTATION for selling out because I am now your biggest fan. This CD has not left my player since the day I received it in the mail and I'm still not tired of listening to it. The combination of classical and metal are perfect and the songwriting and production brings one word to mind. GENIUS! |
