No - Lifehouse haven't lost itI have a major problem I need to get sorted out here. Where did anyone get the idea that Lifehouse had Creed as an influence? I know the people who write the Amazon & Rolling Stone reviews are professionals, but Creed & Lifehouse are two very different bands. Creed could be called an imitation grunge band & Lifehouse are as far away from that as possible. 'Hanging By A Moment' is Lifehouse's major hit and probably the most upbeat Lifehouse song, but you only have to listen to any of their other songs to know that comparing Lifehouse & Creed isn't a very good idea. So, while the Rolling Stone reviewer suggests in his review of this self-titled album that Lifehouse have changed their style, I'm going to say that's not much has changed with the band since their debut No Name Face in 2000 or their 2002 album Stanley Climbfall, which unfortunately didn't get all the notice it should have. On this album, there's a little bit more of the pop perhaps and a little bit less of the rock (there's some keyboards, violins, techno stuff in there) but the band are still able to pull it off and look good. Ultimately, the tracks where they stick to their classic style of Alt Rock are the highlights, but it's interesting to see them try something new. There's several themes explored in the album. One is the love songs, that lead singer Jason Wade's done a lot of. And believe it or not, they're still great. 'Come Back Down,' the album opener, has some beautiful phrases and can be matched back to 'Breathing' or 'Everything' from the first album. 'You & Me,' which is the first single, was dismissed by Rolling Stone as 'good for the O.C. and little else' but I beg to differ. You & Me is a beautiful song and there's nothing shallow about it - 'What day is it / & in what month / This clock never seemed so alive' is a line only Wade could create. The second theme is where he is about to be walked out on. 'Blind' is one of these tracks and you can easily cry to it if you're a sensitive type - and he manages not to wallow in his misery. The third theme is just one where he seems to be pondering about mostly love and not much else. Overall, the first few tracks are the best (Blind, You & Me, Come Back Down), the rest are a bit poppy, but Jason Wade has a beautiful voice and he writes great songs, and as long as the band keep that up, they should have no problem achieving the success they deserve.Buy this!I'll start this review by sayin i never really listened to lifehouse before. not cuz i didn't like them, i just didn't know them. so when i got this cd, i was a little worried i wouldn't like it cuz my friend told me it was soft. I loved it, it's a great mellow-out cd. it doesn't really have many fast-paced songs, but it doesn't matter cuz jason wade (singer) has a great voice. 1. Come Back Down - 9, Simple drum beat but its a great song 2. You and Me- 10, My fave. it's just a perfect song 3. Blind- 8.5, It's good but i wouldn't call it my fave 4. All in ALl - 10, I love Jason's voice in this 5. Better Luck Next Time- 6.5... 6. Days Go By - 8, Good song, nice melody 7. Into the Sun- 7, Not the best but not unlistensable 8. Undone - 8, Good simple song. 9. We'll Never Know - 10. AWESOME! The fastest one on the album. 10. Walking Away - 6, Too slow. 11. Chapter One - 7.5, This one has a pretty keyboard sound. 12.The End Has Only Begun - 7, Nice way to end the album Anyway, great album, get it!nothing short of expectationsWhereas no name face is a little more edgy and agitated, yet quiet, and stanley climbfall is louder and more fun (?), lifehouse's new selftitled album is as said, nothing short of expectations. IT has a super intro song, and the gripping but mellow single you and me and my new favourite song of theirs, track #5 better luck next time (one of the best songs ive heard of anyone, loud! rocking! amazing!) and then the rest of the album which only lacks in that it isnt all as good as track 5 ;) This album is not expensive and especially after listening to it would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone even remotely interested in this type of music |
